Gandy Dancers On The D&RGW

Gandy dancer is the slang term used for early railroad workers who laid and maintained railroad tracks in the years before the work was done by machines. This group of railroad workers on the Denver Rio Grande Western railroad at the turn of the century. My grandfather is standing second from the right.

Another of the painting-a-day series of small watercolors.Using watercolor washes over a pen sketch on rough watercolor paper. A fun way to bust loose and explore with watercolors that are different from my usual approach. 7" x 11" image size matted and ready to frame.
